What an Amazing Day!

Within about an hour we’d had 4 phone calls about accomodation for the refugees from Lebanon. First came Imad calling from Lebanon, Greg took the call and was delighted to be able to offer the flat to them for around 5 weeks, at a greatly reduced price. We had heard about so many Cypriots taking advantage of the refugees, even though most have plenty of money, Greg did not feel right asking our usual weekly price.

Everyone Seems Settled In

After a day or so of just relaxing, our guests seemed to have settled in and they have gotten themselves adjusted; the phone has been ringing off the hook from people looking for our new guests. Julia left this morning to volunteer to help at the “new” stadium where they have been housing over a 1,000 Canadians. She went to the front gate and told them she was there to help… they gave her a sticker for her shirt and opened the gate… she went everywhere looking for other volunteers… but nothing was happening… lots of garbage.. partially eaten food left here and there… Continue reading ‘Everyone Seems Settled In’

Finally

We were up early this morning but by 8:30AM we still had not had a phone call. At nearly 9:30AM the phone rang. “They” had arrived and the ship was just pulling into the dock but they were in Limassol and not in Larnaca. The dock at Larnaca was too full. There were over 1,000 Americans on their ship and they had been escorted from Beruit Lebanon to Limassol by two American battleships as protection. They weren’t expecting to get through immigration before noon…
